God's Mercy

It's Sunday morning, and I find myself reading the book of Jude.

One passage that particularly struck me, is this:

But you, Dear Friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most Holy Place by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the centre of God's love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life!

Jude - The Message Bible

I love that image and commission of needing to pray in the Holy Spirit, with our arms open and outstretched, just as the Father's arms are outstretched towards us in mercy for us.

It brings to mind the song by Bethel Music & Amanda Cook - ''You Delight in Showing Mercy, and Mercy Triumphs Over Judgement''.

And on seeking some commentary on Jude, I found this excerpt from the Tyndale commentary of 2 Peter & Jude:

...but everyday of his life, the Christian stands in need of the mercy of God. Nothing but unmerited mercy can meet the constant needs of habitual sinners.

So we have a God who knows our need is for constant mercy, and not only does He give it to us, He delights in doing so!

Dear Lord,

Thank You so much for the gift and grace of mercy You pour over us! Help us to give back to You our praise and worship with arms outstretched to You, as we should, to glorify Your name, because of who You are, and for what You have done.

In Jesus' name,

Amen
